JALLIKATTU “Tamil pride”

  Introduction and origin- Jallikattu is a traditional bull-chasing sport of Tamil Nadu which is organised during the harvest festival Pongal. The sport is more than two millennia old. A 2,500-year-old cave painting discovered near Madurai, shows a man trying to control a bull. Historical references indicate that the sport was popular among warriors during the Tamil classical period. Several rock paintings, more than 3,500 years old, at the remote Karikkiyur village in Tamil Nadu also show men chasing bulls with big humps and long, straight horns. Jallikattu is the corruption of the word “Sallikattu” where Salli means coins and Kattu means a particular kind of bag which is still famous in Villages south India. It refers to the bag of coins tied to the horns of bull which contestants try to get hold. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of Australia’s most famous and well-loved events, bringing thousands of visitors to Sydney to join in the celebrations. Mardi Gras is a celebration of love, diversity, and equal rights. The history of Mardi Gras takes us back to the time of 1978, when on a chilly winter night when police came down on a street festival bravely celebrating gay rights when homosexuality was illegal in Australia. MEMORIAL DAY

  Introduction and Origin –  Memorial Day is Federal holiday in America, observed on the last Monday of May. It is celebrated to honour the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.  It was originally known as Decoration Day because Americans decorate the graves of the fallen soldiers with flowers and American flags. It originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. The Memorial Day remembrance was first observed on 30th May 1868. From then henceforth, the day was continually observed on May 30th until 1968 when the Uniforms Holiday Bill declared the official day as the last Monday in May.   Way of celebration – Americans visit the national cemeteries where they lay flowers and flags on the graves.   Introduction and Origin –  Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of the house of Windsor was born April 21st, 1926, In 1952, after the death of King George VI, Elizabeth succeeded to the throne and was known thereafter as Queen Elizabeth II. The queen’s Birthday is an auspicious day celebrated in New Zealand every year. This day is the observance of the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II who is monarch of 16 countries, the United Kingdom and 15 common wealth realms.
