Introduction –

Rosh Hashanah or Jewish New year is a day celebrated in early autumn by being a better human. It is the birthday of the universe, the day specifically when God created Adam and Eve. Rosh Hashanah is the head of Jewish new year, where the word Rosh means (head) and Hashanah means (the year).According to the Hebrew (Jewish) calendar. It is celebrated on the first two days of the month Tishrey (September /October). The exact date of the celebration changes every year.

This is the day of Judgement where every person passes before God and is decreed that who shall live and who shall die. People on this day clean their souls and get a chance for a better fresh new start in the next year.

 

Ways of celebration –

The two-day long festival is full of food, prayers and some creative rituals .people on this day,

Eat rituals foods, Apple dipped in honey, Head of animal or Fish is a typical dish served. Fish is known as a traditional symbol of fertility and prosperity. Since its eyes are always open, the creature represents knowledge. ( Jewish tradition says to be like head of fish, not the tail) , Beets, Dates, Beans, Pomegranate, and leek

Hear the Shofar, (ancient musical instrument). Historically The Shofar called people to battle or to communal gatherings. Shofar is blowed 100 times into Ram’s horn to remind people to reflect. 

 

Go to Synagogue (there are gorgeous literature melodies that are only sung on this time of year like Unetaneh Tohkep ) one of the most important prayers  “   And who by fire, Who by water, Who in the sunshine,Who in the night time, Who by high ordeal, Who by common trial, Who in your merry month of May.

 

Tashlich – casting off ( the sins) ,There is a beautiful day time ritual where people toss bread crumps into nearby water bodies symbolically casting away old habits and mistakes.
