American President’s Day


Introduction and origin –

President's Day, also known as Washington's Birthday, is a federal holiday observed in the United States on the third Monday of February. President’s day that celebrate all U.S. presidents   specifically George Washington who was born on February 22, the first President of the United States. Sen. Steven Wallace Dorsey of Arkansas was the first one to propose this day as federal holiday and in 1879 president Rutherford B. Hayes signed it into law. Since then it’s called “Washington’s birthday’’ which was only applied to District of Columbia. But in 1885, the celebration expanded to the entire country. America celebrates this day to pay tribute to all American presidents, past and present.

 

 

How to celebrate President Day

President's Day is viewed as a time of patriotic celebration and remembrance. Many patriotic and historical groups stage celebrations, re-enactments and other events to highlight this holiday. Around the country, historic and patriotic groups hold events and celebrations. Schools in a number of States are required to spend the days teaching students about the accomplishments of United States' presidents, specifically focusing on the lives of Washington and Lincoln.

 

 

How American kids celebrate President Day

 Kids on Presidents day learn more about this day and develop a better understanding and know the importance of the day. Children plans Presidential skits, watch George Washington’s Birthday Parade, pay visit to exhibition at The American History Museum and bake a cherry pie to honor President Washington.
