Ascension Day

Introduction and Origin-  Ascension Day is one of the earliest Christian festivals (The word Ascension means going up), dating back to the year 68. It is the 40 th day of Easter. According to Christian belief it is a Christian holiday that commemorates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven. Ascension Day marks the end of the Easter season and occurs ten days before Pentecost (Christian holiday). Depending upon the phases of the Moon in a particular year, Ascension Day is celebrated on a Thursday. However, some churches, particularly in the United States, celebrate it on the following Sunday. Ascension Day is a floating holiday that falls forty days after Easter. It always falls on a Thursday, but the date changes yearly. Ascension Day is not a federal public holiday in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States. It is a public holiday in some countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway
